The UN is warning that soaring food prices threaten to plunge at least 100 million more people into poverty in the coming years. This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who has followed the climate crisis and its effect on food production.
But this is no time to philosophize. Or point fingers. Or put our heads in the sand.
We need to start making those deserts bloom once again. Get some more desalinization plants on line. Roll up our sleeves and get to work.
We have the know how. And with the unemployment rate climbing alongside the value of the Euro, we have the people power (hey, a jobs a job).
So, I suppose all we need are some good leaders to organize us. Anyone out there? Al Gore? Bill and Melinda Gates? Oprah? Anyone?
